Ingredients:

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar (or honey)
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbsp mustard
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • Black pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. Whisk all ingredients together in a saucepan.
  2. Simmer on low heat for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Let cool, then store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  4. Keep chilled in a cooler until ready to use at the picnic.
    • Brush BBQ sauce onto meat during the last few minutes of cooking
    • This prevents burning and keeps food safe and flavorful

Food safety tip:

  • Use one container for basting raw meat and a separate container for serving to prevent contamination.
