homemade BBQ sauce
Making your own BBQ sauce lets you control flavor, sugar, and food safety.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 Tbsp brown sugar (or honey)
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 Tbsp mustard
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- Black pepper to taste
Directions:
- Whisk all ingredients together in a saucepan.
- Simmer on low heat for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Let cool, then store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- Keep chilled in a cooler until ready to use at the picnic.
- Brush BBQ sauce onto meat during the last few minutes of cooking
- This prevents burning and keeps food safe and flavorful
