eat well be well

Eat Well, Be Well is a nutrition and wellness program designed to help you to take control of your health. It gives you easy, low-cost meal ideas, nutrition information, and whenever possible, access to healthy foods.

We understand your food choices depend on your budget, culture, health, and what’s available where you live. We are committed to helping our members learn more about nutrition’s impact on their health. And we provide info and resources to help them eat better for their overall well-being. Our Eat Well, Be Well Program educates, inspires, and connects members to healthy foods.

Recipes for Wellness

Our recipe website section, Recipes for Wellness, features healthy recipes for a variety of dietary needs and cultures. It also helps members who have certain health conditions eat meals and snacks that may be best for them. And the section will continue growing! From heart health to diabetes management, to healthy snack ideas for children, there’s something for everyone. Each recipe includes:

  • Low-cost ingredients
  • Steps on how to prepare the meal
  • Nutrition tips

Community Partnerships

We work with trusted local organizations to offer nutritional support. For example:

We are partnering on a high blood pressure management program that provides qualifying members in Cook County with:

  • Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) meals
  • Grocery boxes
  • Case management to monitor blood pressure
  • Support from our registered dietitian, including:
    • Nutritional counseling
    • Signing up for supplemental nutrition assistance programs
    • Culturally relevant meal recommendations

In the fall and summer months, members are invited to meet us at farmers’ markets across Central and Southern Illinois. Every Meridian member in the family gets a $15 voucher to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables. SNAP recipients also get $1 in Link Match for every $1 spent at markets that offer the Link Match program. And non-members get a $5 voucher . Find a market in your area.

The program goal is to reduce food insecurity and increase access to healthy foods.

Why healthy eating matters
