Choosing a primary care provider

What is a primary care provider (PCP)?

Think of your primary care provider (PCP) as your health partner and advocate. They get to know you, your health history, and what matters most to you.

Building a relationship with your PCP over time can help you reach your physical and mental health goals in a way that's right for you and your family.

How do I find a PCP?

To find a PCP that meets your healthcare needs, use Meridian’s find a provider tool.

When looking for a PCP, think about what’s important to you:

  • Network coverage: Is the provider in your network*?
  • Location: Is the office easy to get to from home or work?
  • Office hours: Do their hours fit your schedule?
  • Virtual care: Does the provider offer telehealth?
  • Background and beliefs: Do their values fit with yours?
  • Language: Do they speak your language or offer translation services?
  • Experience: Do they have experience with your specific concerns (autism, elderly, chronic conditions)?

*A provider network is the group of board-certified doctors, specialists, and other clinicians that Meridian has contracted with to provide care.
