What to Do During a Power Outage
Power outages can happen unexpectedly. For members who rely on electricity dependent medical devices, outages can feel especially overwhelming. We’re here to help you stay safe and supported.
1. Check your immediate safety
If your breathing worsens, your device stops working, or you feel unsafe at any time, call 911 right away.
2. Switch to backup power or supplies, if you can
- Use backup oxygen tanks or battery powered equipment as instructed
- Conserve battery power by turning off nonessential features
- Keep devices and batteries dry, ventilated, and off the floor
3. Monitor your symptoms and call 911 if you experience:
- Difficulty breathing
- Chest pain
- Confusion or dizziness
- Device malfunction or failure
4. Use generators safely.
Never operate gasoline generators indoors (risk of carbon monoxide).
