The Importance of Interoperability
Interoperability is a secure way for healthcare systems and software applications to share electronic medical records (EMR) that support our provider partners in the effective delivery of care for better patient outcomes.
At Meridian and our family of plans, our interoperability solution is designed to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance patient care.
Key benefits include
- Seamless data exchange: Instantly share and receive clinical information without relying on faxes or portals.
- Comprehensive patient insights: Access lab results, medical records, and specialist consultations, all in one place.
- Reduced chart chase: Reduce time spent on follow-ups and documentation burden.
- Real-time alerts: Receive timely notifications for care gaps, risk adjustment coding, and quality measures.
- Improved performance: Boost STAR and HEDIS scores with enhanced data flow.
- Automated processes: Simplify and accelerate prior authorization requests.
We recognize your responsibility to protect patient information. You maintain full control over EMR permissions and who can monitor access logs. You determine what data is shared and with whom.
EMR access is also governed by strict protocols, such as:
- HIPAA-Compliant Agreements: All EMR access is covered under Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) and complies with federal privacy laws.
- Role-Based Access Controls: Only authorized personnel can view relevant data. Full charts will never be shared.
- Audit Trails and Monitoring: Every access to an EMR is logged and monitored to ensure transparency and accountability.
- Secure Systems: Data is encrypted, both while being transmitted and while stored, using industry-standard security measures.
Below is an overview of the EMR platforms we support across our family of plans:
- EPIC
- Healow Insights (eClinical Works)
- Athena (Moments of Care)
- Oracle Health (Cerner/Millenium)
- Veradigm (Practice Fusion, Allscripts, Nextgen) - Wellcare (Medicare) and Ambetter (Marketplace) only
