Notification requirements for applied behavior analysis (ABA) assessments
Date: 02/26/26
Meridian Medicaid Plan has updated our utilization management policies for notification of applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy in accordance with Illinois Public Act 104-0028 requirements.
Effective May 1, 2026, providers must notify Meridian within 24 hours of conducting ABA assessments (CPT codes 97151 and 97152). Utilization review may begin after the 24-hour notification period. Failure to notify the plan within the 24-hour timeframe will result in a denial of coverage due to lack of timely notification.
Notification requirements apply only to ABA initial assessments. All other ABA-related services and treatment plans are subject to prior authorization and/or concurrent review.
Providers can fulfill notification requirements by utilizing Meridian’s secure provider portals. Follow the same process for a prior authorization request to submit a notification. Providers may also contact Provider Services at 866-606-3700 (TTY: 711) to submit a notification.
